Congratulations to our reigning Winners, Finalists & Honorable Mentions,
who
will be featured until judging is completed for the August/ September 2005
contest!
Entrants from
across the U.S. (and even overseas) sent in many humorous, well-written
submissions. It was a close finish, with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Winners almost
neck-and-neck. The Finalists and Honorable Mentions were not far behind.
The judging panel carefully
reviewed each entry, paying particular attention to HumorPress.com's exclusive "H-U-M-O-R"SM
judging criteria, which rewards entries for their Humor, Universality, Moxie,
Originality and 'Riting.
After several
judging rounds, the field was narrowed to a final slate. From these, the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Place Winners were
chosen, with the
remainder named as Finalists. Entries
that did not quite make the final round, but advanced beyond the preliminaries,
were named as Honorable Mentions.

Our Congratulations To EVERYONE Who Entered!
If your
entry was not recognized this time, we encourage you not to give up! Writing humor is a craft, and
it takes persistence to master any craft.
- Some entries were
well-written, but needed a bit more work setting up
the humor and punching
up the punch lines. Try structuring your work with distinct set-ups and
punch lines throughout the piece.
- Other
entries had plenty of punch, but relied on coarseness or
vulgarity, which limited their potential readership. Try writing
as if your piece were for a daily newspaper to achieve the most
universal appeal.
Just by
entering you made a great effort and we commend you for it! (You
already did better than others who thought about entering,
but didn't!) We hope you will try again and we look forward to
seeing more of
your work!
